Special grippers can be used for applications in which regular suction pads cannot generate a vacuum. Schmalz offers a variety of special grippers with various shapes, sizes and principles of operation.
Floating suction cups function according to the Bernoulli principle and enable low-contact handling of thin and sensitive workpieces such as plastic films, paper or solar cells. The floating suction cup generates an air cushion on which the workpiece “floats”. Leakages are compensated for with the help of a high flow rate in order that porous workpieces can also be handled and separated.
Diameter: 20 to 120 mm Holding force: 2.0 to 104.0 N Rubber buffer on the bottom side of the suction cup
Application areas :
Floating suction cup for low-contact handling of fragile workpieces such as paper, film, printed circuit boards or wafers and solar cells.
Needle grippers provide the option of reliable gripping of workpieces which are difficult to grip using vacuum as well as highly porous materials. Intersecting needles ensure an optimal holding force. These special grippers are particularly suitable, for example, for textiles, fiber composite materials or fleeces.
Floating Suction Cups
Wafer grippers are suitable for extremely quick and reliable handling of wafers and solar cells. The generation of a high flow rate with low air consumption enables particularly gentle handling of sensitive workpieces.
Thin Glass Grippers
Besides the handling of composite textiles, these grippers are ideally suited to extremely thin, sensitive plastic films, thin glass and blank printed circuit boards. The integrated vacuum generation allows a high flow rate at a moderate vacuum level. The suction areas with suction openings positioned closely to one another prevent the workpieces from being sucked in and damaged.
A feature of the thin glass gripper from Schmalz is its gentle and contamination free handling. The high suction capacity and large effective suction area make secure handling of workpieces possible even in dynamic processes. This area gripper is used, for example, for the handling of very thin display glasses in automated or partially automated processes.
